Hiring A Magician For Your Wedding - Pros And Cons.

In a previous article I discussed “5 things to be aware of when booking a wedding magician for your wedding.” Naturally in writing that article I assumed you, the bride, (I’m making the assumption that it’s the bride reading this, as, let’s face it, the bride organises everything) had already decided that a magician is what you wanted, the help I gave was in finding the right one.

In this article I will discuss WHY you should be hiring a magician and the advantages and disadvantages in doing so. Now, of course, I am slightly biased given that this is my line of work, but I still think I can put forward a case for the conjuring community.

Let’s start by noting that throughout your special day you will be the centre of attention, and your mind will not always be on the welfare of your wedding party, especially during the photos which can be known to go on for a couple of hours. This is where a magician can add that extra dimension to your guests wedding experience and give YOU peace of mind knowing that they are in safe hands.

A good magician can pretty much work during any part of your BIG day (except of course the actual ceremony!) This makes a magician extremely versatile, slotting in with ease and not disrupting the flow of the event.

A magician can wow your guests during any of the following times

Photographs

Since the formal wedding photographs involve only small groups at a time, the majority of your guests will be waiting or engaging in small talk with others. This is a great time for a magician to provide an unforgettable experience while at the same time helping to break the ice between different groups of guests.

Wedding breakfast

The wedding breakfast is another popular time for entertainment. A professional magician will not interrupt whilst people eat but will entertain a table at a time between courses. It is always a lovely moment for the wedding couple to hear loud spontaneous cheers from different tables.

During the evening reception

A magician can also entertain during the evening reception when all your evening guests have arrived and the party is in full swing. With formalities out the way this is usually a very relaxed part for all and having a magician entertain can provide a very memorable experience for all. A magician can mingle with guests and even perform a small show which will always include the wedding couple.

Now it would be wrong for me to JUST discuss all the positives involved in hiring a magician and not look at some negatives, albeit very few that I can think of.

Well, booking a professional and experienced magician is not cheap and will likely cost around five hundred pounds for a couple of hours. This may seem a lot but weigh it up against the wonderful memories you and your guests will have for a lifetime and it’s not difficult to see that is justified. If you have the budget, do it.

Another drawback is that it will take you time to find the right magician. It is so, so important to spend time and effort here because the downside will be you stressed out during the day wondering if your magician is performing and entertaining to the level you expect. You do not need any more stress on your wedding day. To make this less of a chore, see my article “5 things to be aware of when booking a magician for your wedding” to make this process a lot easier.

So, to summarise; if you have the budget and have the patience to find the right man for the job it is well worth hiring a wedding magician. You will likely hear your guests talking about “that magician” or “that trick” for years to come which will surely bring a smile to your face.
